Choosing Your Stole
Q1. What is the difference between FROST and ECO-FRESH?
The main difference is how each one creates its cooling sensation.
FROST uses contact cooling — the fabric itself feels cool against your skin the moment you put it on. Because it doesn’t rely on evaporation, it performs consistently even in high humidity. It also has quick-dry, moisture-absorbing properties for when you perspire.
ECO-FRESH uses evaporative cooling, activated by wetting the fabric with water. It also offers UPF50+ sun protection and a deodorizing function.
| FROST | ECO-FRESH | |
|---|---|---|
| Cooling method | Contact cooling (always active) | Evaporative cooling (activated with water) |
| UPF | UPF20 | UPF50+ |
| Additional function | Moisture-wicking & quick-dry | Deodorizing |
| Effect of humidity | Largely unaffected | Works best with air circulation |
| Price | ¥8,000 (excl. tax) | ¥8,000 (excl. tax) |
Q2. Which one should I choose?
FROST is a good fit if you:
- Want a cooling sensation without needing water
- Spend time in humid conditions, indoors, or on public transport
- Perspire easily and value quick-dry performance
ECO-FRESH is a good fit if you:
- Spend long hours outdoors and want the highest sun protection (UPF50+)
- Want a stronger cooling effect for sports or outdoor events
- Are conscious of perspiration odour
Q3. Is there any reason to own both?
Yes. Because they work differently, many customers use them for different occasions.
FROST suits commuting, city walking, and indoor use. ECO-FRESH suits time in direct sun — outdoor sports, leisure, and events. Some customers also keep two on hand simply so one is always clean and ready.
About the Cooling Functions
Q4. What is “contact cooling”?
Contact cooling uses the fabric’s own thermal conductivity, so it feels cool the moment it touches your skin. FROST records a q-max value of 0.335 W/cm² (KES-F7 method), the standard measurement for contact cooling performance.
Q5. What is “evaporative cooling”?
When water evaporates, it draws heat from its surroundings. This is why a breeze feels cool on damp skin.
ECO-FRESH is built around this principle. Wetting the fabric produces a cooling sensation, and the effect is strongest where there is air movement — outdoors, in a breeze, or near a fan.
Three steps to activate:
- Wet — soak the fabric thoroughly with water
- Shake — shake gently to remove excess water
- Wear — drape around your neck or shoulders
When it begins to dry out, simply repeat these steps.
Q6. Can I use them without wetting them?
FROST is designed to be worn dry. Contact cooling and quick-dry performance work without any water. The fabric can technically produce an evaporative effect if wetted, but as a nylon material it becomes noticeably heavier when wet, so we recommend wearing FROST dry.
ECO-FRESH can also be worn dry. You’ll still have the full UPF50+ sun protection and deodorizing function — you simply won’t get the evaporative cooling sensation.
Q7. How long does the cooling last?
FROST — Contact cooling comes from the fabric itself, so it continues throughout wear. If an area warms to your body temperature, shifting the stole slightly restores the cool feeling.
ECO-FRESH — Evaporative cooling lasts as long as moisture remains in the fabric. Duration varies considerably with temperature, humidity, and air movement. Simply re-wet it when it dries.
Q8. Does washing reduce the cooling performance?
Both FROST’s contact cooling and ECO-FRESH’s evaporative cooling come from the properties of the fabric itself, so normal laundering will not cause a sudden loss of function.
In testing, the ECO-FRESH fabric showed no change in water absorption (1 second) after 10 wash cycles, and its deodorizing performance was substantially retained (JIS L 1907 and related methods).
Please avoid fabric softener, however. It coats the fibres and can reduce absorbency, which affects both cooling and quick-dry performance.
Q9. Can I chill it in the refrigerator before use?
Brief refrigeration is fine. Please do not put it in the freezer — the fabric stiffens and the fibres can be damaged.
Note that FROST’s contact cooling works through the fabric’s thermal conductivity, so pre-chilling isn’t necessary to feel the effect.
Sun Protection & UPF
Q10. What is the difference between UPF and “UV blocking rate”?
UV blocking rate is a simple percentage showing how much ultraviolet light the fabric blocked in testing.
UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) is an international rating calculated under the Australian/New Zealand standard AS/NZS 4399, measured across the 290–400nm range. It indicates how much longer you can stay protected compared with bare skin.
For example, UPF20 means the UV exposure your bare skin would receive in 20 minutes would take roughly 400 minutes (20 × 20) through the fabric.
We display UPF ratings because they are the more widely recognised international standard.
Q11. How much difference is there between UPF20 and UPF50+?
| UPF rating | Approx. UV blocked | Protection level |
|---|---|---|
| UPF 15–24 | approx. 93–96% | Good protection |
| UPF 25–39 | approx. 96–97.4% | Very good protection |
| UPF 40–50+ | approx. 97.5% and above | Excellent protection |
FROST is UPF20 and ECO-FRESH is UPF50+.
The difference in blocking rate is a few percentage points, but over long hours outdoors the cumulative exposure differs meaningfully. We suggest FROST for everyday use and ECO-FRESH for extended time in strong sun.
Q12. Does the UV protection last through repeated washing?
Our UV protection comes from the fabric’s knit structure and the fibres themselves, rather than from a surface treatment applied afterwards. Under normal care, the protection will not disappear suddenly.
That said, the following can damage the fabric and reduce performance:
- Using bleach
- Tumble drying at high heat
- Prolonged drying in direct sunlight
Please follow the care instructions on the garment label.
Q13. How do I know when to replace it?
We don’t set a fixed number of uses. The condition of the fabric is the best guide.
Consider replacing your stole if you notice:
- The fabric has thinned and become more see-through
- Stretching or sagging that no longer recovers
- Tears or fraying
Increased transparency is the clearest sign, as thinner fabric allows more UV to pass through.
Q14. Should I still use sunscreen?
Yes, we recommend using both.
A stole protects the areas it covers, but your face, ears, and the backs of your hands remain exposed. Reflected UV from the ground is also a factor.
Using the stole for your neck and shoulders alongside sunscreen on exposed skin gives the most complete protection.
Care Instructions
Q15. Can I machine wash it?
Yes, both stoles are machine washable.
Recommended care
- Place in a laundry net and wash with a mild detergent for delicates
- Avoid bleach and fabric softener
- Reshape and dry in the shade after washing
Fabric softener coats the fibres and can reduce absorbency and quick-dry performance. This matters especially for ECO-FRESH, which relies on holding water.
Q16. Can I tumble dry or iron it?
Tumble drying — Please avoid it. High heat can shrink the fabric and affect its texture. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water, reshape, and dry in the shade. The fabric dries quickly.
Ironing — Generally not needed. If creases bother you, use a pressing cloth on a low setting for a short time. Direct high-heat ironing will damage the fabric.
Q17. Will the colour run or transfer?
Our fabrics scored highly in colour fastness testing (grade 4 to 4–5) across washing, rubbing, perspiration, and water, so colour running or transfer is unlikely under normal use.
As a precaution, we still suggest washing your stole separately the first time.
Please also note that on lighter colours such as Offwhite, water or perspiration left on the fabric for long periods may leave marks. Allow it to dry thoroughly after use.
Wearing Your Stole
Q18. When and where can I wear it?
Our stoles suit a wide range of situations:
- Commuting — sun protection outdoors and a layer against air conditioning indoors, in one piece
- Golf, tennis, spectating — protects the neck and shoulders during long hours outdoors
- Travel and outdoor activities — lightweight and folds down small, so it takes up little space
- Walking and errands — keeps both hands free where a parasol is awkward
- Gardening and work — moves with you and absorbs perspiration
- Indoors — a light layer against over-air-conditioned offices and restaurants
Q19. Can I use it outside of summer?
Yes. UV radiation is present year-round, and spring and autumn are easy to underestimate.
Spring & autumn — sun protection plus a light layer for cool mornings and evenings
Winter — warmth around the neck; slim enough to wear comfortably under a coat
Indoors — protection against air conditioning throughout the year
Because it’s lightweight and thin, keeping one in your bag is useful in any season.

Customs & Duties
Q23. Will I be charged customs duties or import taxes?
Depending on your destination country, customs duties, import taxes, or handling fees may apply.
These are determined by the tax authorities of each country, and we are unable to calculate or confirm the amount in advance. For details, please contact your local customs office.
Please note that Japanese consumption tax is not applied to orders shipped overseas.
Q24. Who pays the customs duties?
Any import duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees are the responsibility of the recipient.
They are not included in the product price or the shipping fee, and they are billed to you directly by the carrier or your local customs office.
Q25. What happens if I refuse to pay the customs charges?
If customs charges are not paid, the destination country’s customs office will either return the parcel to us or dispose of it, according to local rules.
If the parcel is returned to us, please contact info@fitever.jp and we will arrange a refund for the returned items. The original shipping cost, and any return or customs fees charged to us, cannot be refunded.
If you have any questions about likely charges, we recommend contacting your local customs office before your parcel arrives.
Returns & Exchanges
Q26. Can I return or exchange an item?
Yes. We have a 30-day return policy — you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.
To be eligible, the item must be in the same condition you received it: unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
To start a return, contact us at info@fitever.jp. If your return is accepted, we’ll send you instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back without first requesting a return cannot be accepted. For who covers return shipping, see Q27 below.
We are unable to accept returns on sale items or gift cards.
Exchanges: the fastest way to get what you want is to return the item you have and, once the return is accepted, make a separate purchase for the new item.
Refunds: we’ll notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return and let you know whether the refund is approved. If approved, you’ll be refunded to your original payment method within 10 business days. Please allow additional time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund. If more than 15 business days have passed since your return was approved, contact us at info@fitever.jp.
Q27. Who pays return shipping for international orders?
Change-of-mind returns (for example, you ordered the wrong type or simply changed your mind): you are responsible for the round-trip shipping cost. The original outbound shipping is non-refundable, and you arrange and pay for the return shipping.
Defective, damaged, or incorrect items: we cover the shipping costs both ways.
In either case, please request a return first and wait for our instructions — items sent back without an approved request cannot be accepted.
Q28. What if my item arrives damaged or defective?
Please inspect your order on arrival and contact us as soon as possible, and within 30 days of delivery, if the item is defective or damaged or if you received the wrong item.
To help us respond quickly, please include:
- Your order number
- A photo showing the issue
We will arrange a replacement or a refund, and we cover the shipping costs in these cases.
